🕋 Step-by-Step Guide to Performing Umrah
Embarking on Umrah is a spiritual milestone for every Muslim. Whether it’s your first journey or a return visit, this easy-to-follow guide will walk you through each step of performing Umrah—from Ihram to Halq—with clarity and purpose.
🔹 1. Ihram – Before Entering Meeqat
Prepare:
- Take a full-body bath (Ghusl)
- Trim nails, remove body hair, wear clean clothes
- Men: 2 unstitched white cloths
- Women: Modest dress (face remains uncovered)
Make Niyyah (Intention):
“Labbaik Allahumma bi-‘Umrah”
Start Talbiyah:
“Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk…”

🔹 2. Tawaaf – Circling the Ka’bah
Start:
- Enter Masjid al-Haram with right foot and recite: “Allahumma Iftah li Abwaba Rahmatik”
- Begin 7 rounds of Tawaaf starting from the Black Stone (Hajr-e-Aswad)
Important Sunnah for Men:
- First 3 rounds brisk walking (Ramal)
- Keep right shoulder uncovered during Tawaaf (Idhtiba)
Between Rukn Yamani and Black Stone:
“Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah…”
After 7 Rounds:
- Pray 2 Rak’ahs behind Maqam-e-Ibrahim
- Drink Zamzam water and make dua

🔹 3. Sa’ee – Between Safa & Marwah
- Walk 7 rounds between Safa and Marwah (starting at Safa)
- Recite: “Innas-Safa wal Marwah min Sha’airillah…”
Men only:
- Brisk walk at green lights
At each round:
“Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah…”

🔹 4. Halq or Taqsir – Hair Removal
- Men: Shave head (Halq) or trim hair (Taqsir)
- Women: Trim a fingertip-length of hair
Your Umrah is now completed – Alhamdulillah!

- Masjid an-Nabawi ﷺ
- Masjid Quba (Reward equal to one Umrah!)
- Masjid Qiblatain
- Jannatul Baqi (Graveyard of Sahabah)
