🕋 Step-by-Step Guide to Performing Umrah

Embarking on Umrah is a spiritual milestone for every Muslim. Whether it’s your first journey or a return visit, this easy-to-follow guide will walk you through each step of performing Umrah—from Ihram to Halq—with clarity and purpose.


Prepare:

  • Take a full-body bath (Ghusl)
  • Trim nails, remove body hair, wear clean clothes
  • Men: 2 unstitched white cloths
  • Women: Modest dress (face remains uncovered)

Make Niyyah (Intention):

“Labbaik Allahumma bi-‘Umrah”

Start Talbiyah:

“Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk…”


Start:

  • Enter Masjid al-Haram with right foot and recite: “Allahumma Iftah li Abwaba Rahmatik”
  • Begin 7 rounds of Tawaaf starting from the Black Stone (Hajr-e-Aswad)

Important Sunnah for Men:

  • First 3 rounds brisk walking (Ramal)
  • Keep right shoulder uncovered during Tawaaf (Idhtiba)

Between Rukn Yamani and Black Stone:

“Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah…”

After 7 Rounds:

  • Pray 2 Rak’ahs behind Maqam-e-Ibrahim
  • Drink Zamzam water and make dua

  • Walk 7 rounds between Safa and Marwah (starting at Safa)
  • Recite: “Innas-Safa wal Marwah min Sha’airillah…”

Men only:

  • Brisk walk at green lights

At each round:

“Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah…”


  • Men: Shave head (Halq) or trim hair (Taqsir)
  • Women: Trim a fingertip-length of hair

Your Umrah is now completed – Alhamdulillah!

  • Masjid an-Nabawi ﷺ
  • Masjid Quba (Reward equal to one Umrah!)
  • Masjid Qiblatain
  • Jannatul Baqi (Graveyard of Sahabah)

  • ✅ Make lots of dua
